Meal planning can be a serious drag if you’re not organized. Before I even begin to sit down and plan out a meal I have to be organized. If I’m not I won’t be able to save money at the grocery store and I will end up coming home without a lot of the items that I actually need. Have you ever done that?
Well, I have and it seriously sucks. I’ve even gotten to the store and realized that I forgot my half-assed list at the house. Don’t even try to remember what was on it… not with the mom brain.
Then all of this hassle and forgetfulness changed! At one point in my life, I used to keep all of my favorite recipes on Pinterest and just refer to them there as necessary. However, as more and more of my favorite websites started monetizing their sites with ads I started just taking a screenshot of the recipe and the directions.
Then those started getting lost in my photos. I’m a mom. I take 5 pictures of my kids a day, minimum. No, really they are that cute.
I needed a life change. I needed something drastic to help keep me organized and assisted me in not spending hundreds of dollars at the store each week.
Then it hit me! I already use Trello for my business so why not use it for my meal planning.
Ding. Ding. Ding. We’ve got a winner!
USING TRELLO TO ORGANIZE RECIPES
I started putting recipes into a newly created board. At first (and it sort of still is) just recipes I’ve made or meal ideas. I’ve been transferring over the recipe as I look at it for a meal plan.
However, I have implemented this strategy into my meal planning and it’s becoming addicting.
I’ve become super organized using this board now. When I plan meals I go to my board first and take a peek at what’s in there. If I need new ideas I go to Pinterest and scope that out. As I find recipes to try I put them into Trello.
I cannot tell you how much time I’ve saved by not going to Pinterest (I use my phone). I start searching for 5 minutes to find the recipe then going to the website only for the site to crash due to ads or spam and having to start the process over again!
So here I am using Trello to organize the recipes I use in our meal plans.
Here is how I set up my card for a recipe.
- Create a card for each recipe.
- Put the directions in the description of the card.
- Put the ingredients in a checklist.
- You can put pictures in the card to make them more visually appealing and easier to locate. Make sure they are set as the board cover.
- Put the direct link to the original recipe in the card as well so you can find it if you ever need it.
I have also come across some amazing tricks to format the text in the cards to make it stand out better. However, it’s been a life-changing process to get more organized.
I have implemented Trello into my daily life at home and in my business. I could never go back now.
Did I mention they have an app? They do!
